This is the cabbage soup diet best recipe. If you like vegetable soup, or are looking for recipes for this diet, you will like this. I love soups, especially easy to make soups like this. I sometimes add different veggies, depending on what is coming out of the garden.
If you don't want to be vegetarian, you could add some lean chicken or turkey but then it wouldn't be the cabbage soup diet best recipe.
2 32 oz cartons of low salt vegetable stock or 0 fat chicken stock
1/2 cup celery, chopped
1/2 head green cabbage, chopped
1/2 cup carrots
2 bell peppers, diced
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 cans of diced tomatoes
Season to taste with anything you like. Parsley, salt, pepper, basil, celantro, an old dirty sock, etc.. Whatever you like.
Water saute the onions for about 5 minutes and add the rest of the ingredients. Cook until the vegetable are tender. Eat, then wait for methane explosion. Cabbage tends to make some people a bit gassy.
Although I love this soup, I do not recommend the cabbage soup diet, especially for extended periods of time. People do lose weight while on the cabbage soup diet. They probably lose friends too. Did I mention the gas problem? The weight lost is mostly water and muscle due to lack of protein in the diet. Most will gain back whatever they lost when they go off of the diet.
The problem with this diet is that you are limited to much of the same foods. This means not enough of the different nutrients you need to be healthy. Depending on the version, you also eat fruits and other veggies as well as some red meats and poultry, but very little else with much protein. Many people get light headed and have little energy on the diet because of this.
Cabbage soup can definitely be a part of a healthy eating program, but you need a variety of foods to be healthy. If you haven't already, look at the healthy food pyramid to see what a good diet is. You can lose weight without going on a fad diet like this. It just takes a change in eating habits.
